The Russian Defense Ministry has excluded the An-70 military transport aircraft jointly developed by Russia and Ukraine from the state armament program and is considering the possibility of filing a lawsuit for the recovery of 2.95 billion rubles transferred to the Ukrainian company for the design of the aircraft.
The An-70 is a new generation medium-freight (operational-tactical, military-transport) aircraft developed by Ukrainian company “Antonov”. By 2020, the Russian Defense Ministry had to buy 60 aircraft of this type. Joint Russian and Ukrainian development and design work on the project started in 2010, the same year, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russia paid 2.95 billion rubles for this work. However, the Ukrainian side after the change of government in February 2014 froze the joint work, and “Antonov” completed work on the aircraft and testing on its own. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine took the plane into service at the beginning of the year.
