Starting on March, 11 Russia stops its participation in sessions of the joint consultative group for the Treaty on ordinary military forces in Europe, thus finalizing the activity of the Treaty.
The head of the Russian delegation underlines that for many years Russia has been fully cooperating to maintain the control over the ordinary military forces. At the same time NATO was developing and expanding, becoming an obstacle to the adaptation agreement.
In 2007 Russia decided not to fully cut its activities because of the position of many participating countries.
However, this step does not mean that Russia will not participate in further cooperation to control ordinary armaments in Europe.
