The press-service of the Western military district informs that more than 20 Russian combat ships have been put to sea for anti-submarine and air defense.
The ships of the Baltic fleet are joined in tactical groups get ready to perform the set tasks.
The group also embraces corvettes of project 20380, diesel electric submarines, anti-submarine ships, mine sweepers and ships of auxiliary fleet.
This Monday the Russian armed forces started extraordinary checks of combat readiness making a special emphasis on the Arctic activities.
More than 38 thousand soldiers from the Northern fleet and the Western military district and Special Forces are joined by the trainings, scheduled from March, 16 to March, 21.
The first surprise checks were for the first time held in the post-Soviet time in 2012. The high officers believe that such checks help to develop inner cooperation in the armed forces.
