Russia and Peru are negotiating the modernization of the T-55, new contracts for the purchase of Russian tanks are not expected so far, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Anatoly Punchuk said at the weapons exhibition in Lima on Friday.
The Peruvian Army has up to 200 T-55 tanks in service.
“The theme of the purchase of new Russian tanks has been many times discussed with the Peruvians, but so far it has not received development. According to our information, our partners do not consider this project to be their main priority. At the same time, Peruvians are interested in modernization of the T-55 tanks” – Punchuk said.
