Russia must maintain a strong military if it wants to remain peaceful, Deputy Defence Minsiter Ruslan Tsalikov told delegates at the Army 2015 forum.
“We have been, and remain peaceful people,” Tsalikov said. “Our rhetoric today is absolutely correct and peaceful. But we need a strong military in order to defend this position.”
According to Tsalikov, the military’s image within Russian society has changed in a positive way, and most people are supportive of it. Tsalikov was opening discussions at a round table called “The Army and Society” at the event as part of his argument that Russia must continue to strengthen its military.
