A Russian corvette has conducted torpedo exercises in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Western Military District’s head of the Baltic Fleet’s press center said Tuesday.
“According to the scenario, an anti-submarine vessel, the Kalmykiya, will attack a corvette with a training torpedo. The crew of the Boiky [corvette] will in turn completed anti-torpedo maneuvers after having identified the threat and employed its Paket anti-torpedo systems on board the vessel,” Capt. 2nd Rank Vladimir Matveyev was quoted as saying in a statement.
The Paket torpedo system is used in close-zone anti-submarine warfare and also for destroying torpedoes launched from an enemy ship.
