Сrews of MiG-31 and Ka-27 began training at Kamchatka

Military exercises involving Mikoyan MiG-31 (NATO reporting name: Foxhound) interceptors and Kamov Ka-27 (Helix) helicopters have started at the Yelizovo airbase in the Far Eastern Kamchatka Territory, Russia’s Eastern Military District spokesman, Captain 1st Rank Roman Martov said on Wednesday.

“The exercises aim to improve the skills of the crews of fighter and helicopter aviation for conducting reconnaissance, searching for air targets, surface ships and submarines,” the spokesman said.

During the training flights, the pilots will practise various assignments as part of fighters’ pairs and wings using helicopter radar equipment and airborne armaments. The crews will also drill parachute and landing operations, the spokesman said.
