Disposal of the two largest nuclear-powered submarines in the world – strategic submarines of Project 941 “Akula” – “Arkhangelsk” and “Severstal”, removed from the Navy a few years ago, will not begin until 2017.
This was reported by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday in the shipbuilding industry. “Recycling of “Severstal” and “Arkhangelsk” will not begin until 2017 and will continue until 2020. Disposal will deal with specialized units of Rosatom,” – a spokesman said.
He stressed that the Defense Ministry has no plans for their further use. At the same time the industry pointed out that the same submarine “Dmitry Donskoy” is in service of the Navy. This ship will be further activated for testing and commissioning of construction at the “Sevmash” nuclear-powered ships.
